The majority of the 1910-S Saint-Gaudens were melted down when the goverment recalled all gold coins during the 1930’s.  One’s that did survive ended up overseas or hid away in small collections.  The 1910 San Francisco pieces are very scarce in in MS65 with only 238 graded by PCGS. The Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle was produced by the U.S. Mint from 1907 to 1933. The coin’s name, derived from its designer, sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens was commissioned by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1904 to beautify American coinage. The coin is often considered to be the most beautiful of U.S. gold coins and features a standing Miss Liberty lighting the way to freedom by holding a torch as the dawn rises over the Capitol.
